For this client, who recently bought a large luxury home on a prestigious development in Winchester, we really pushed the boat out. We achieved all of this in lightening quick time and had the shutters and blinds installed within 8 weeks of initial survey. Our brief was to accentuate the large windows and for the bedrooms and cinema room to provide blackout.
During the free home shutter consultation, the client briefed us that they wanted the ability to fold the shutters flat against the wall either side of their windows. The survey highlighted that the window panels themselves were not uniform in size and since we wanted to make sure that we maximised curb appeal we made the bespoke shutter panels in different sizes.
This ensured that the wooden shutter panels lined up perfectly with the glazing strips on the glass. The measurements even took into account the difference in plastering on the window reveals and to give the shutters that finished look we chose a frame that had a small architrave and covered any inconsistencies in the plasterwork.

The client had installed an amazing cinema room and of course required total blackout for this. At the same time the client wanted to ensure the kerb appeal for the home so required that we shutter the cinema room as well. Shutters do provide a high level of blackout, but they do bleed some light. For most clients we offer an integrated honeycomb backout blind that works with a specialised shutter frame (by the way this is a rare occurrence as for most clients shutters are more than adequate on their own).
In this instance though, the customer was looking for an automated solution and this is what we provided. The remote blinds installed needed no hardwiring as we found a rechargeable solution. By adding side channels to the remote roller blinds, we also ensured there was no light bleed around the edge of the roller.

We also supplied a remote roller blind solution for their daughter’s bedroom and again these where supplied with aluminium side channels fitted with brushes to ensure no light bleed. We installed shutters in front of these blinds as well.

Towards the rear of the house a large kitchen and living area overlook the garden and here privacy was not such an issue. We wanted to provide a light filtering option that would reduce solar glare and gain. For this we selected a duette (honeycombe) blind, as can be seen here, which creates an appealing glow when the sun shines through it.
The fabric can be transparent, translucent or blackout and comes in a range of stunning patterns and colours. Different colours can be chosen for different rooms and the fact that the fabric can be chosen with a white outer means you can achieve a uniformity of look from the outside of the property.

In the bedrooms in the eaves, sloping ceilings had to be considered in terms of the opening configuration, and the shutters could only be opened out to the right. Our beautiful hardwood shutters were fitted inside the framing around the windows and give a really pleasing visual effect.
