Here at The Great Shutter Co we obviously specialise in window shutters but we also sell a large range of other window coverings with the focus on remote control blinds.

Our client purchased a large, brand new home in Winchester. From survey to order we installed the shutters and corresponding blinds within 8 weeks. The brief we received from the client was to make the most of their large windows but that they also require blackout for the daughter’s bedroom and cinema room. We surveyed the house on the day we received the initial call from the client. The client wanted to have the ability to fold their shutters flat against the wall either side of their windows. On surveying we found that if wanted to mirror the glazing strips on the windows, we would need to make the panels different sizes so that they lined up perfectly with the glazing bars.

The bigger the company, the more difficult it becomes to control. We are a small, independent company specialising in window shutters. That’s right, there are only two of us on the selling and fitting side. We have worked out that Trevor has fitted some £2m worth of shutters and blinds in the last 8 years and Mike, the owner, has fitted over £1.2m of shutters alone. When I come and show you our brochure, I am showing you what we have fitted. Not what a franchisee has fitted in Northampton or stock photos from a shutter company in Sweden. We’re based in Winchester but cover areas across Hampshire and Dorset.

We all know a bay window is a beautiful thing and here at The Great Shutter Co. we see them in all shapes and sizes. Bays are often splay bays or box bays and in some cases they only have a return at one end. The size of the bay will often be very influential on the bay window shutter design that we agree with you.

In many cases we are able to come up with a design that lets the customer fold the shutters out of the way. This can either be flat against the wall or in the case of a track system the shutters stack into the room. In some cases though this is just not possible. Maybe because furniture is in the way or the location of the window compared to the location of the wall prohibits this and sometimes its just because the design of the shutters does not allow for that. If you look at the picture here you can see that two of the windows allow for shutters to be folded flat against the wall. The shallow angled bay does not because we have had multiple bespoke bay posts made to follow the curve of the window. This means each panel is hinged to a post and not to another panel.
